Occupational therapy is often used as a treatment for sensory integration issues associated with autism. It is used to help teach activities of daily living skills that involve fine motor movements, such as dressing, using utensils, cutting with scissors, and writing, as well as gross motor and motor planning.

Similar to OT, physical therapy is used to improve the individual's ability to participate in everyday activities. PT works to teach and improve skills such as walking, sitting, coordination and balance.

People with autism have deficits in social communication; speech therapy is an important treatment option. From using and understanding nonverbal communication to initiating an interaction with peers. Social skills can be extremely challenging for children with autism.

Social skills challenges are one of the defining diagnostic criteria of autism, they are a core area of focus for many therapists, parents and teachers.

Social understanding impairments in; social interaction (difficulty with social relationships, for example appearing aloof and indifferent to other people).

Social communication (difficulty with verbal and nonverbal communication, for example not fully understanding the meaning of common gestures, facial expression or tone of voice).

Social imagination (difficulty in the development of interpersonal play and imagination, for example having a limited range of imaginative activities).

There are so many more modalities for treatment and early intervention, example equine assisted therapy, aqua therapy, listening therapy, Auditory Integration Therapy, music therapy, dance and drama lessons, piano lessons, gymnatics, etc. etc. Our children are not limited in their desire to participate fully.

One in 32 children in Katy has been identified with
an autism spectrum disorder;

share the hope.

We firmly believe individuals can learn the why, when, where, and how of social behavior, but they need the help and support of significant adults in their lives. Learning new behaviors and using them often enough for them to become habit requires patience and support from the family. Your child will make progress much faster when you take an active role in their learning. Raising a child with social behavior deficits is challenging and requires understanding, and above all patience. Our practical workshops and parent training classes are essential. They provide the knowledge needed to gain a better understanding of your child, and they will increase ability to manage behavioral challenges. In addition, you will have the opportunity to network with other parents struggling with similar issues, who will become valuable resources for you as you continue your journey with your child.
